Paintball Vs Airsoft

The rivalry between Airsoft and Paintball players is well known, with fans of both combat sports claiming their favourite is the best. But even the most devoted players have to admit there are some similarities between the two, which makes choosing between airsoft and paintball almost impossible for first time players. Here at Go Ballistic we have awesome tailor-made paintball and airsoft venues nationwide, so to help you decide which is best for you here’s a look at some of the key differences.

The Gun/Hopper3

Airsoft guns are designed to look ultra-realistic, which is why they have coloured tips to distinguish them from the real thing. In contrast paintball markers don’t quite have the same level of realism due to the hopper on top of the gun – but you definitely need somewhere to store all that extra ammo! In terms of speed airsoft guns also have the advantage with shots regularly fired at 450 fps, but that just means you’ve got more chance of dodging a paintball.. in theory.

The Ammo

The different types of ammo used in airsoft and paintball is one of the key differences between the two combat sports, and both have their advantages. Airsoft relies on an honor system, which means when you’re hit by an opponent you have to raise your hand and leave the game. Because the small plastic pellets used in airsoft leave no trace it makes it much easier to deny being hit. There’s no such chance in paintball though, and the brightly coloured splat mark on your overalls kind of gives it away if you’re trying to pull a fast one.

The Games

One of the biggest similarities between airsoft and paintball is the games played, and both give you the chance to try some awesome missions and scenarios, including all the old favourites like Capture the Flag, Elimination and Hostage Rescue. Airsoft missions are typically more realistic and prioritise strategy, where as the emphasis in paintball is purely on fun. Both are guaranteed to push your teamwork and battle tactics to the limit though.

The Rules

We touched on it earlier and the honor system used in airsoft is a huge difference between the two combat sports. Without it airsoft would be total chaos, so it’s essential that players stick to the rules in order to make sure airsoft is fun and fair as possible. Basic safety rules also apply to both combat sports though, and rules such as wearing your safety equipment at all times must also be followed.

The Venues

Despite their differences this is one of the best things about both airsoft and paintball. Some of the best airsoft arenas include derelict shopping centers, abandoned schools and under ground tunnels, and you’ll even find zombies roaming round some of them. Paintball arenas are just as impressive though, and as well as the classic woodland arenas you’ll also find indoor arenas, underground nuclear bunkers and Hollywood style movie sets to battle it out in.
