Paintball Tips and Tactics

Are paintball tactics important? Yep, if you want to win more often than lose, they are very important.

If you didn't Go Ballistic, you didn't go paintballing!

Paintball is a simulation of a battle, so having a game plan makes sense. All paintball games are modified military procedures that are used to out-manoeuvre the opposing teams in order to win the game. So if you employ tried and tested paintball tactics, you put you and your team at an advantage. So, here we go:

Paintball Basics – positioning & movement.

  1. Do not hang around in one spot too long. The opposition will have you pegged.
  2. Don’t shoot from a distance. You will show the opposition where you are holed-up. Get closer to your opponent before letting rip.
  3. Don’t shoot random paintballs when you see a leaf move – it is probable the breeze. Spot the target, move in; get a good sight line – fire!
  4. A good position is gold.
  5. Be patient and be quiet.
  6. Be sure you know where your allies are – avoid friendly fire casualties.
  7. Get a good idea as to where your enemies are. Pretty crucial.

Paintball Basics: Game Tactics

  1. Never get “pinched.” In other words, don’t let the enemy get either side of you so you are being shot at from two directions.
  2. Try to sneak up on your opponent from behind – but watch your back for his team mates.
  3. Don’t shoot unless you have immediate cover close by. A shooter out in the open is dead meat.
  4. Communicate your battle plan with you team before the game starts, during the game, but be flexible enough to change the plan if the situation demands it. Usually a well-planned attack increases your chance of victory every time.
  5. Back up a team member under fire by providing fire-cover until they can get in a safe place.
  6. Best tip of all – practice, practice, practice – then practice some more.
